About the Newark Community Data Hub

What is it?

The Newark Community Data Hub is a collection of dashboards focused on the experiences of Newarkers within their communities, providing insights into areas like education, poverty, workforce, healthcare, and housing. In our current phase, our focus is on the experiences of Newark’s children and youth.

Why are we building it?

We want to support residents and organizations looking to learn more about their communities and/or find places where they can lend their voices and support. We want to:

  • Share knowledge with those who otherwise wouldn’t have access
  • Spread awareness about Newark’s successes and where support could help Newark children thrive
  • Provide data support for local advocacy efforts, efforts to improve practice and program development, and help guide philanthropic planning.

Who is it for?

The data hub was designed for everyone:

  • Residents
  • Local advocates
  • Non-profits
  • Social service agencies
  • Researchers
  • Foundations
  • Local government

Where does the data come from?

We use publicly available data sources for our dashboard:

We use the most recent data from all sources and update data points as new data is released. Information about each source is available on our dashboards, including essential data notes and caveats.

Roadmap for the future

We are actively expanding the data we provide on our dashboards. In the coming months, we plan to include:

  • Adult education and employment outcomes
  • Community access to health insurance
  • Community poverty rates
  • Housing access and affordability
  • Health outcomes for youth and adults
